It comes as no surprise that we make a great tequila. Day in and day out, our Maestro Tequilero Jesús Hernandez oversees the production of barrels upon barrels of this carefully distilled spirit. The quintessential Mexican drink beloved by all, the party starter of so many occasions.
What may surprise you, though, is that we’re as passionate about sustainability as we are making great tequila.
You see, we’re different from other tequila companies. Come to think of it—we’re different from most spirit companies. When our founders set out to create a smoother, cocktail-ready, reasonably-priced tequila, they had an underlying desire to do so in the most eco-conscious way. For Altos, tequila production and sustainability go hand-in-hand. One simply can’t exist without the other.
With Earth Day right around the corner, what better time than now to share what being eco-conscious means to us. From caring for the physical land on which we harvest our agave plants, to the people within our community who help reinforce our various sustainability initiatives, “Earth Day” has become a way of life for all of us who help produce Altos Tequila.
We’re dedicated to preserving the land of Arandas, the city in Mexico that gives us this great agave. And we’ve pioneered simple practices within the industry that reduces water consumption, waste and energy. When it comes to liquid waste, we are proud to say that we use a process that generates 47% less water waste than the industry average. Not only that, but we only use organic fertilizer and 98% of our solid waste is recycled. Keeping our environment healthy is a priority for us, so we take pleasure in implementing these green practices.
But it doesn’t stop there: we’re busy educating consumers, bartenders and the larger community on how to reduce small wasteful bar items, such as coasters, straws and napkins. We can all do our part and we’ve taken it upon ourselves to lead by example. By preserving the land and maintaining tradition, we can take steps to ensure future generations have the opportunity to experience the beauty and bounty of the Arandas region. Including our great tequila.
