In Mexico, there are 10 million artisans, of which 60% live in vulnerable conditions and in areas of medium/high marginalization. From this pool of artisans, Huichol art is one of the most well known inside and outside Mexico. It is produced by the Huichol people, who live in the states of Jalisco and Nayarit in Mexico. The unifying trademark of their work is the colorful decorations that use symbols and designs in chaquira (small beads) to represent key aspects of their world vision. Altos has partnered with Huichol communities to offer a special edition of Altos Huichol bottles through e-commerce. In collaboration with “Ascalapha,” an organization that has been working to improve the lives of these vulnerable groups, we intend to generate a positive impact on the quality of life of the Huichol Community in San Andres Cohamiata, Jalisco.

So far, this project has reached 32 artisans that have created more than 1,600 bottles which translates in more than 6,000 hours of craftsmanship and an increase in family income of 2.5 times.
Additionally, with the interest of generating more and better ways to materialize the impact of this project, we have raised 106,838.00 pesos, that have already been destined to help San Andres Cohomiata improve water access and hygiene habits impacting 124 people.
